So what is a "BRAAI"
Integral to the cultural lives of all South Africans, a braai is more than just a barbecue; it’s a social event where family and friends gather for good food and fun. Instead of just grilling, we cook various meats—like lamb, beef, chicken, and South African sausage, called boerewors—over a wood fire that adds a unique smoky taste. A braai is typically accompanied by sides such pap (a corn-based dish), fresh salads, and bread. It’s about the whole experience—eating, relaxing, and connecting with others around the fire, which is just as important as the food itself.
